| The church was organized on January 7, 1900. The ten charter members were under the leadership of Rev. John C. Baker. The church began Sunday services in the Bellevue school on Main Street. The church was incorporated as First Baptist Church of Bellevue on July 10, 1901. Our church remained small and struggled financially for several years. On January 5, 1919 the church unanimously passed a resolution to move the church building down into the village. The story from old-timers was that the church was set on logs and pulled by teams of horses to the new site. In 1951 the church bought 1.75 acres of land at the corner of SE 11th and Bellevue Way for a new church site. A few members protested that it was too far out of town. On January 31, 1960 the church moved into a completed educational unit on the new property, where it is located up to this day. |
